Stamford Hill A10 London

The A10 Stamford Hill will become a People Friendly Street

What does this mean for the area of Stamford Hill?

The A10 Stamford Hill will be transformed into a people-friendly street, which comes after the news that the £9.5m plans to transform the area were given the green light.

The scheme, which will see the section of road between the A10 junction with Amhurst Park and the junction with Seven Sisters Road revamped, was given the go-ahead by Hackney Council's planning committee on Tuesday (July 19).

What will the changes entail?

The changes will include:

  • Widening the pavements to create more space for pedestrians
  • Reducing the number of traffic lanes from two to one in each direction
  • Introducing a 20mph speed limit
  • Planting trees and installing new street furniture

What are the benefits of the changes?

The changes are expected to bring a number of benefits to the area, including:

  • Making the area more pedestrian-friendly
  • Improving air quality
  • Reducing traffic congestion
  • Creating a more vibrant and attractive area

The changes are part of a wider plan to improve air quality in Hackney. The council has declared a climate emergency and has set a target of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

When will the changes be made?

The changes are expected to be made in two phases, with the first phase starting in early 2023 and the second phase starting in late 2023.
